Independence Day India: Google's Tricoloured salute to our freedom

CaptureInternet search titan Google today celebrated India's Independence Day with a doodle.
Google showcased its India homepage with a tricoloured ribbon spelling its logo to mark India's Independence Day. This doodle marks 67 years since the British declared India an independent state and left the country.

This year on January 26, India's 64th Republic Day India's national animal the tiger glared from the doodle and the symbol of the Republic, India Gate, decorated the bottom left corner of Google's Republic Day India doodle. The Google logo appeared as stripes on the tiger's body. Lotus, India's national flower, also appeared in the jungle-like motif surrounding the tiger.
On August 14, Pakistan's Independence Day, Google posted a doodle in which Pakistan's national symbol the crescent and star appeared between the horns of a markhor, a large species of wild goat that is also Pakistan's national animal. The K2 Mountains appeared in the background. This was the third time that Google doodled Pakistan's Independence Day. The first was in 2011.

It has also marked the birth anniversaries of prominent Indian figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Anant Pai, Jagjit Singh and Srinivasan Ramanujan with doodles in the past. Occasions like the release of Alam Ara (the country's first talkie), Cricket World Cup and India's first passenger train ride have also been celebrated by doodles on Google's home page.
